This is the last week to register for the 2017 WMS Annual Dinner before the price goes up!


Tickets are $75 per person. Tickets purchased after May 18 will increase to $85, so we encourage guests to R.S.V.P. today! There are two ways to register for the event:

  1. Pay by Check: Checks can be sent to Peter J Porrazzo, WMS Treasurer, 1924 Tysons Trace Drive, Vienna, VA 22182.  Please make checks payable to the "Washington Map Society" and mail to the above address before May 18, 2017.
  2. Pay by Credit Card: If you wish to pay by credit card, click here to register and pay for tickets online on the secure Eventbrite website. Please note there is a small additional fee to pay by credit card.


This year, the Washington Map Society will meet in the beautiful Capitol Visitor Center for our 38th Annual WMS Dinner on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:30 PM (EDT)

7:45pm - Presentation by Dr. Stephen J. Hornsby (University of Maine)
Dr. Hornsby will be discussing his most recent book, Picturing America: The Golden Age of Pictorial Maps, showcasing a diverse array of vivid and popular pictorial maps, Hornsby has unearthed the most fascinating and visually striking maps the United States has to offer!

The dinner will include beef tenderloin, grilled salmon, salad, sautéed vegetables, roasted potatoes, and assorted dessert tarts. A vegetarian entrée is available upon request.


Additional event details:

  1. Getting There: The best way to reach the US Capitol Visitor Center is by taxi or Metro. Capitol South Metro station is 1.5 blocks south of the South Entrance to the Capitol, and Union Station Metro is 4 blocks north. There is public parking at Union Station, and taxis are available to drop off at the South Entrance on Independence Avenue SE. There is very limited street parking in the area.
  2. Entering the Capitol: All attendees must check in with Capitol Police at the South Entrance to the Capitol (on Independence Ave SE across the street from the Rayburn House Office Building). Capitol Police will have a list of the attendees to our event, and only After passing through security, attendees will be escorted to the banquet room. Please note that no liquids or foods are allowed through security, and bags may not be larger than 18" W x 14" H x 8.5" D.
  3. Book Signing: If you are interested in purchasing Dr. Hornsby's book and having it signed at the dinner, please purchase a copy in advance and bring it with you to the dinner.  (No sales are allowed at the Capitol.)  The book is available for purchase through the University of Chicago Press, the Library of Congress Shop (online only), Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
